Why should I care?

Much needed intimacy

Ok that’s unnecessarily clickbait-y, but it’s true. Emacs brings you closer to your computer.

If you spend upwards of 6 hours a day in front of a computer, don’t you think it’s a good idea to at least know how the thing works?

In school, often we would take apart pens/lead pencils for fun, so it’s not like we’re not curious. It’s just that doing the same with a computer is too much work. Emacs is a gentle introduction to getting to know your device better.

Fast

There is a gap between wanting to do something (“oh shit, I need to fix the spelling at the beginning of this sentence”) and then doing it (“using the mouse or the left arrow, backspace, re-type…”). Learning the ways of Emacs lets one do this 5x faster than before.

Also, it gives you the confidence to tinker with your computer and make it truly yours.

In short – it’s fun, and it makes working fun!
